Both games are by Trapstar Games and sold separately on Steam for Windows. Hood Warfare 2 is not a patch for the 2023 Early Access game.

I put the two app-details payloads side by side on 13 October 2026. The sequel’s own text says it brings back the chaotic shooting and humor of the original, now in Unreal Engine 5, with updated visuals, new weapon animations, and a new set of maps. The launch note says nearly four years had passed. I did not find a bundle or an upgrade SKU. You pay for each app.

How the mode lists differ
This is an editorial comparison of official descriptions, not a claim that the rules are identical. The original store names Gang Warfare, Turf War, Chaos, Gangbang and a three-gang variant. Original-game updates add Gun Game and cooperative Zombies.
The sequel lists Turf War, GangBang, Chaos, Hit A Lick, Destroy The Block and Chain Snatch. Territory scoring, team kills and free-for-all have similarly named entries in both descriptions. The sequel’s other objectives are bag delivery, bomb attack/defence and collecting chains after kills. Zombies and Gun Game are not in its six-mode store list.
Which one to install
If you want the current player base, the sequel is the busy one. If you want zombies or the Detroit maps, that content is on the 2023 app. Nothing on the store says progress carries over.
Questions
Do I need the first game to play the second?
No. They are separate Steam apps. I found no DLC link from one to the other.
Did the original leave Early Access?
Not according to the store label on 13 October 2026.
